Nerinx Attends State Thespians Conference in January |
|
| Every January thespians come together from all over the state of Missouri for workshops, productions, and meetings in order to promote quality theater. | |
| Twenty-seven Nerinx Hall Thespians participated in the STATE Conference held at UMSL January 4, 5, 6 in 2007. Maggie Ryan, Ross Bell, Jenni Ryan and Susan Pennington were the teachers involved in the conference as Sponsor and Chaperones. Jenni Ryan and Ross Bell also presented a workshop, "Broadway Here I Come" to a large number of theatre kids. Their workshop was one of the favorites in the 90 workshops offered. The Conference was a great event that offered many opportunities for students to attend workshops about all aspects of theatre. Highlights also included six One Act plays and three Mainstage productions which were presented for 1700 students and teachers from all over Missouri. The All-State Show of the musical "Urinetown" featured our own Ashley Colon in the role of Little Bitty Two Shoes. Ashley and students from other parts of Missouri were selected last year to perform at the State Conference. Ashley traveled to Kansas City for many rehearsals and all of us were very proud of her. Her performance was outstanding. Four Nerinx Hall Seniors competed for scholarships in performance. There were over 100 students competing for the acting scholarships. All of our students did very well. We are especially proud and give special recognition to Ashley Colon who won 2nd place in the THESPIAN SCHOLARSHIPS and will receive $1000 to be applied to the school of her choice. Seniors Liz Schranck, Betsy Finder, Chelsea Putnam also received scholarship offers from several universities in Missouri. Lastly, Nerinx Hall Thespians received a special award as HONOR TROUPE 747 in recognition for our service work with TOTS EAT (food collection for kids) and the work we did at conference and throughout the school year in support of International Thespians. |
