Nerinx Math Students 8th Overall in Missouri

Nerinx girls in some of the calculus and precalculus honors classes participated in the Missouri Math League Contest. It is a series of six tests given at different times throughout the year. This year Nerinx placed 8th in the entire state, its first time in the top ten, although there have been several times that it made the top twenty. Congratulations to the girls and to their teachers: Mrs. Henerey and Mr. Magee.

Nerinx Instrumentalists #1

Three of our musicians received a "1" rating at the District Solo and Ensemble. They will now be adjudicated at the State level in late April. They are: Michelle Currie (senior / flute), Cassie Heard (sophomore / violin), and Julie Clanahan (reshman / piano & clarinet).

Select Women's Chorus Sings at the Fox

On April 9 members of our Select Women's Chorus participated in the 2008 Catholic Schools NIght at the Fox. This was the culmination of a year of planning, rehearsing, and general fellowship of over twenty schools throughout our Archdiocese. Nerinx Hall was chosen by audition to be a part of this special event.

Select Women's Chorus Performs at Webster University Faculty concert

On April 6 the Select Women's Chorus performed "Loretto Poets Suite" by Duane Bridges, who is also on the faculty at Webster University. The performance was for the Webster University Faculty concert. Select Women's Chorus has been working on this special suite of music since last August and have performed it many time throughout the year. This occasion marked the final performance of the piece in its entirety for the school year. A recording was made and will be available in May.

Our Singers Get California Gold

The Select Women's Chorus won a "gold" rating at the Heritage Festival in Anaheim, California and placed 2nd overall in the Women's Chorus category. We were given the opportunity at Mr. Bell's request to be rated among 2A schools (Nerinx is rated 1A) and Nerinx received higher scores than schools more than twice its size! In addition, Select is invited to compete in the "Festival of Gold" next spring in either New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago as it was in the top ten percent of ensembles competing.
The students were perfect ambassadors of the Nerinx Community and were consistently praised for their poise and grace from the adjudicators, festival leaders, and tour guides. Nerinx is extremely proud of these remarkable musicians.

Nine Nerinx students were honored to have their work selected for display in the Artist Guild Student Show. This is a very competitive juried show open to all students ages 16 - 20 that live within 100 miles of the St. Louis area. Charlotte Hellmuth received an Honorable Mention for her piece. Other Nerinx girls whose art appears in the show are Margaret Moore, Josie Corley, Alaina Appelbaum, Claire Kerwin, Emily Grigone, Julie Lickenbrock and Jessyka Fry.

Christina Zanboni is Nerinx's Scholar Athlete of the year. Christinia played volleyball and lacrosse while achieving a 4.1 grade point average.

Congratulations to seniors Jill Patton, Michelle Currie, and Colleen Blosser who have been recognized as National Merit Finalists after completing a rigorous application and authenticating their high scores on last year's PSAT by achieving high scores on the SAT.
Nerinx is proud of its Commended Scholars as well: Rebecca Dale, Elise Hellwig, Nicole Hoffman, Margaret Loehnig, Mallory Murphy, and Rachel Timmons.

Nerinx Hall senior Molly Conroy was one of 10 recipients of the first annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Model of Justice Awards presented to St. Louis area high school students by the St. Charles Lwanga Center. She received the award from Archbishop Raymond Burke at a ceremony after the annual Martin Luther King Memorial Mass on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. She was nominated for her commitment to social justice and community service. She has been active in the Nerinx Peace and Justice club, LIFE (Living in Faith Experience) and Model UN. She is serving as vice-president of Peace & Justice this year. She has participated for two years in the School of the Americas protest and performed her senior community service at the Center for Survivors of Torture and Trauma. She will be going to El Salvador on a service trip during Spring Break 2008. She organized a forum on environmental issues for the entire senior class and is a lead organizer for a new, interscholastic environmental student group involving several St. Louis area girls schools.
You're an inspiration to us all, Molly!
