| Nerinx was founded as an independent, private Catholic school in 1924 and continues as such. It is located within the Archdiocese of St. Louis and works together with the Archdiocesan Education Office and the other private Catholic high schools. These collaborative efforts include Archdiocesan High School nights and the Open House in November when private, parochial, and Archdiocesan high schools work together to enable grade school children to investigate their choices. Applications to Nerinx, as well as to the other schools, are handled through an Archdiocesan process designed for every student to find a place in a Catholic high school. Visit the website of the Archdiocesan School Office for more about the Catholic high schools in St. Louis. | |

School Philosophy |
|
|---|---|
| As a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for women, founded by the Sisters of Loretto, Nerinx Hall High School is grounded in the belief that educated, caring, empowered young women are essential to our world. Thus, we have three primary concerns. We strive to help each young woman know herself and her world. We strive to offer her a loving community of faith that fosters individual gifts, nurtures the spirit alive in each person, and reveals the world as a place where hope may live. And we strive to call each young woman to deliberate, Christian action in her world. | |
Assumption: Women must know themselves and their world. | |
| We believe that knowledge of self develops as each student experiences her own powers of reason, imagination, intuititon, physical skill and endurance, and as she grows in her relationship with God. Thus we try to provide each student with solid experiences that will assist her in becoming a more fully integrated person who has the self-assurance, flexibility, and creativity needed to face her rapidly changing world. | |
| We believe that knowledge of the world must encompass science, arts, and humanities, religion and cultures, awareness of technologies, and a historical perspective of humankind. We challenge our students to academic excellence in each of these areas, believing that excellence is best achieved when the student has developed l) the self discipline to assimilate facts and to master skills of learning, 2) the confidence to critically analyze and imaginatively speculate on the enlarged vision of each discipline and 3) the ability to engage in collaborative learning for the enhancement of the entire community. | |

Assumption: Diversity enriches and trust empowers. | |
| We believe with the Sisters of Loretto that diversity within a community is enriching. Thus we seek diversity in our faculty and our student body, we respect difference of opinion, and we find strength in a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. We see Nerinx Hall as a comunity of learners, students and faculty, working together to develop their potential as persons. | |
| As persons deeply rooted in a Judeo-Christian heritage, we share the profound belief that our God has created good, and that the goodness of each student grows best in an atmosphere of trust and caring. Thus we strive to create a community based on trust and rooted in the love of Christ - one that witnesses to patience and hope, that remains open to the spirit in each person, that values racial, ethnic and cultural differences, that works for cooperation more than competition, and that is able to laugh and to forgive. We hope that within this community each student will come to value herself and her world, and will be empowered to make lasting commitments to others and to a world which greatly needs her. | |

Assumption: We are called to action. | |
| Exemplifying the pioneer spirit of the Loretto community and the Bishops' call to mission, Nerinx Hall calls each young woman to responsible, Christian action in the world. Thus, we challenge her to make a difference in her communities. We strive to prepare her for action that results from deliberate choice, that responds to areas of deep human need, that challenges the dehumanizing aspects of her world that increases awaresness of environmental concerns, and that promotes a just and peaceful society. In preparing her for action, we offer her opportunities for leadership, space for failure and the chance to effect change within and through her school community. | |
| Nerinx Hall strives to inspire each student to a life-long pursuit of knowledge, self-awareness, Christian community and committed action. | |
