A Proud History

Since 1986 the athletic program has continued to expand its offerings in varsity and sub-varsity programs. With the addition over the years of 3 new varsities, 5 junior varsities and 4 freshmen teams, the program grew 84% while school enrollment increased 16%. With the addition of a sophomore sub-varsity team, field hockey became the first sport with four levels of teams. In the 2007-2008 school year, 185 students were athletes in the Fall Program, with 75% of them on the Academic Honor Roll.

2001 Marked 50th Anniversary of Rivalry

Just as they did fifty years ago in 1951, the Nerinx Hall basketball team posted a victory over Ursuline at the annual rivalry match held Feb. 13, 2001. The final score of the tightly-contested match was 60-57. At that first game, Marcella Vogt Sweeney was the coach of the girls. On the afternoon of the 50th anniversary, "Sweeney" was presented with a LifeTime Achievement Award at the Pep Rally. Marcella taught at Nerinx for fifty years and died November, 2004. She is remembered fondly by all and widely respected for her pioneering efforts at Nerinx.

Athletics for All

Intramural Opportunities

Sports tournaments are planned for fun and sometimes for raising funds to support service work undertaken by Nerinx girls. Classes compete against each other in field day activities on Founder's Day in April. National Girls and Women's Sports Day inspires a week-long sports quiz competition among homerooms during the first week of February.

Sports Nutrition and Fitness

Students at Nerinx Hall participate in fitness activities sponsored by the Win With Wellness team and the Fitness Clubs. An example of activities organized by these students for their classmates is the before-school morning walks through the neighborhood. All Nerinx athletes attend a sports nutrition workshop in conjunction with the Sports Medicine Clinic contracted to serve them.
